Description
Summary:Malaysia is a developing country with a valid comprehensive health care infrastructure. Hospital as one of the vital public infrastructure is a complex building with unique engineering system and high-end medical equipment that provides clinical services to the public and can be described as a critical building due to continuous demand in treating patients throughout the years. However, the cost to sustain the engineering system, high-end equipment and other special requirements are rapidly expanded. Thus, this paper will present the development and implementation of sustainable energy management programme in Hospital Langkawi as part of the main elements in achieving sustainable infrastructure. The strategy for the implementation of sustainable energy programme will be introduced to improve energy usage and energy initiatives will be promoted to achieve the set target which in line with the government commitment to reduce carbon emission by 40% in 2020 compared to 2005 level of the emission intensity of gross domestic product.
