Description
Summary:Some efforts towards strengthening physical education in primary schools have been made through the implementation of Teaching Games of Understanding (TGfU) model, and Inquiry model in Padang Pariaman district. Among the aspects emphasized in physical education are the strengthening of motivation and physical fitness. It is crucial to record evidence of the strengths and weaknesses of both models applied by the physical education teachers in primary schools. This can be used as a reference for improvements besides developing an integration model called the education integration model of SyamsuaR Indonesia (SRI). The study analysed students’learning motivation and physical fitness performance besides developing an integration model based on TGFU and Inquiry models. Quantitative observational methods and comparative designs were implemented for data collection. 10 Indonesian teachers from three primary schools of Padang Pariaman were selected and trained to apply the integration model design during the development of the physical education learning model. 76 fifth grade students were involved in the study to compare the effectiveness of teaching models based on 4 sub-variables of motivation, and 5 sub-variables of physical fitness. The comparative results were derived from inferential statistics of an independent t-test. Findings of the observation using 5 point Likert scale showed that the integration model is more effective on the improvement of students’ motivation than TGFU model and Inquiry. The physical fitness performance of Integration model was also better than TGFU model and Inquiry. The comparative results of the developed integration model toward students’ motivation and physical fitness performance were more significant than the results of TGFU and Inquiry models. Based on the findings, the integration model could serve as a guide to help elementary school teachers of Padang Pariaman understand key aspects. Furthermore, the findings can be used to strengthen the integration model to achieve higher level educational learning goals for students as well as to get them motivated and perform better in their physical fitness assessment.
