Tribological properties of mineral oil mix with RBD palm stearin using four-ball tribotester at various loads
The tribological performance of mineral oil mixed with Refined Bleached Deodorised (RBD) palm stearin has been studied using four-ball tribotester followed by ASTM D 4127 B standards. The mineral oil has been mixed with RBD palm stearin oil by 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% with temperature and speeds were h...

TJ Mechanical engineering and machinery The tribological performance of mineral oil mixed with Refined Bleached Deodorised (RBD) palm stearin has been studied using four-ball tribotester followed by ASTM D 4127 B standards. The mineral oil has been mixed with RBD palm stearin oil by 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% with temperature and speeds were held constantly at 75 °C and 1200 rpm. A 100% composition of mineral oil and RBD palm stearin has been tested as a controlled reference of the experiments. All experiments were been done in duration of 60 minutes with different load applied, which were at 40 kg, 60 kg, 80 kg and 100 kg. Then, the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear scar diameter (WSD) was determined. After the experiments were done, the ball wear condition and tribological performance of mixed oil were being analyzed. Finally, the results shows that 100% mineral oil has the highest COF value compared to the oil mixture and 100% RBD palm stearin. However the results for wear scar diameter (WSD) and surface roughness, Ra shows vice versa where 100% mineral oil recorded has the lowest value for both tribology properties.
