Summary:As a part of many attempts to isolate novel microbial species that degrade chlorinated aliphatic halocarbon (CAHC) compounds, however, in this study we focused on the isolation of (TCAA-2) bacterium from Danga Bay coast The amplification of 16S rRNA revealed that the isolated strain is close to Ralstonia sp PH-S1 (Accession number JN543508). The bacteria utilize 5mM Trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) as sole source of carbon and energy. The bacteria grew in liquid minimal medium pH6.5 at 30 C° in shaker incubator 160 rpm. The dechlorination of TCAA was observed by measuring the amount of chloride ion released in the liquid minimal medium. The outcome of this research is considered as the first report which confirm that trichloroacetic acid could be degraded by Ralstonia sp (TCAA-2).
