Hafizullah BP Islam. Bahaism. Theosophy, etc This study focuses on the scientific based interpretation (tafsir ilmi) of the animal's related verses in the Quran, especially bees, ants, and spiders. Tafsir ilmi is one of the types of Tafsir bi al-Ra'y (by sound opinion/knowledge) that based on the ijtihad of mufassirun (Quran Scholars) according to their intelligence and the state of community. This kind of interpretation is widely used by the contemporary Islamic scholars due to its ability to show the miracles of the Quran when findings from today?s scientific and empirical studies are in line with kawniyyat verses in the Quran that was revealed over 1400 years ago. Although tafsir ilmi has its own advantages, some scholars are rejecting it. Therefore, this study is conducted to analyse the opinions of mufassirun regarding tafsir ilmi and its application in interpreting the Quranic verses related to animals. This qualitative study combines two methods of interpretations which are thematic and scientific interpretations. Data are obtained from authoritative books of interpretation (tafsir) as well as writings from scholars in this field. Data are then analysed by document analysis method. Findings from this study indicate that the miracles of the Quran can be proven by combining the Quranic verses related to the animals with the current scientific researches. It is also concluded that scientific based interpretation is highly accepted by Islamic scholars due to its own advantages. However, this approach should be undertaken cautiously and must comply with the strict requirements outlined by the mufassirun in order to assure the intention, meaning and purpose of that particular Quranic verses are not digressed. 2015-05 Thesis NonPeerReviewed application/pdf en http://eprints.utm.my/id/eprint/53503/1/MohdHafizullahMdAbasMFIC2015.pdf Md.
