This study consists of three main objectives: to identify the level of students in higher level mathematics problems, identify the cause of the occurrence of problem solving math problems for students of high order and recommend strategies to apply high level skills in teaching and learning. Subjects for this study involved of 100 students from form 4 of science classes randomly selected from three secondary schools in Johor Bahru, Johor. This study utilizes two sets of instruments; test sets high level mathematics questions and interview methods. Through the analysis of the findings set of high-level mathematics questions test found the level of the high-level mathematical problem solving among students is at a low level. The findings of the interview 3 students who have sat the test high-level problem solving, it can be concluded that students are not exposed to the optimal problem-solving questions because they are too focused on exams. In addition, teachers are also not applying higher order thinking skills in the classroom cause fewer students to connect the facts and concepts of the use of mathematics in everyday life. In conclusion, the researchers put forward several recommendations to the relevant authorities as a guide to improve weaknesses in an effort to create a more effective academic excellence.
