Description
Summary:The Public Housing Program (PPR) is a government effort to help the slum dwellers and those with monthly income less than RM 2,500.00 per month. PPR housing issues are often associated with poor housing condition which causes dissatisfaction among its residents. The aim of this study is to determine the satisfaction level of residents based on indicators of housing quality. By referring to the indicator suggested by previous researchers and standard housing guidelines, a survey questionnaire is administered to 615 respondents who live in two housing areas which are PPR Sri Iskandar, Pasir Pelangi and PPR Desa Mutiara, Tebrau. The scope of the study focuses on the satisfaction level of the key aspects which are physical, social, safety, facilities and environmental aspects. The findings were analyzed using Likert Scale to determine the average (mean) for each criterion in the questionnaire and the data was presented according to each case study. The average (mean) score of the satisfaction level for each case study is quite similar. Based on the 39 criteria analyzed, respondents from PPR Sri Iskandar earned 16 points while PPR Desa Mutiara respondents earned 13 points. Although there are several problems raised especially regarding physical aspects, safety and environment, the respondents are still satisfied in terms of social aspect and facilities. The result from the analysis for the overall quality of housing occupied is moderate for PPR Sri Iskandar and low for PPR Desa Mutiara. Several suggestions are made to increase the quality of life of the residents in general. It is hoped that the research would serve as a guideline for the parties involved in housing development, particularly in ensuring the quality of life of PPR residents.
