The adoption and modelling of non-geodetic observation data for the purpose of deformation analysis.

Instruments and methods of geodetic survey alone cannot satisfy all requirements of deformation measurements. Geotechnical and other nongeodetic instrumentation is recommended to be used when gathering information for the purpose of analysing the deformation. The geotechnical instruments such as ext...

Geotechnical and other nongeodetic instrumentation is recommended to be used when gathering information for the purpose of analysing the deformation. The geotechnical instruments such as extensometer, inclinometers, pendulum and others can easily be adopted for data acquisition for deformation analysis purposes particularly for structures such as dams and bridges. There is a special attention required with regard to the mathematical modelling in order for the non-geodetic observations data to be adopted and included in the analysis of deformation. This report highlights the relevant formulas and mathematical models to be used in modelling the deformation particularly for the case of single point displacement and homogenous strain.
