Summary: | Stimulated by the importance of reducing pollution caused by ship wakes, this study is conducted to design a better hull model that can produce less wave resistance. It is very crucial to measure the ship wake produced during the design stage. The system implemented is based on stereophotogrammetry principles. By using stereophotogrammetry system, the floater motion that represents the ship wake can be obtained in XYZ-coordinate. Five major stages in design and development of the system are stereo-camera calibration, design and development of stereo-camera platform, design and development of system control frame, data capture and finally data processing stage. Two experiments are conducted to validate the system. Firstly, system calibration in static water condition and another one in wave condition. The result is compared with the control result. After improvements and validation, the system is used to measure the ship wake using test model, MTL038 26m stern trawler at the speed of 5 knots. From the result, it shows that the system can successfully measure the ship wake produced from the model test. |
