A study of the effect of pipe material in electrical capacitance tomography for gas-solid flow

Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is categorized as a soft-field sensor which is non-invasive and non-intrusive instrument that can provide the visualization of cross-sectional distribution of any kind of multiphase flow. ECT would help in understanding the gas-solid flow interaction. This pap...

Description
Summary:Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is categorized as a soft-field sensor which is non-invasive and non-intrusive instrument that can provide the visualization of cross-sectional distribution of any kind of multiphase flow. ECT would help in understanding the gas-solid flow interaction. This paper concise the theory of ECT system and the effect of the pipe material in Electrical Capacitance Tomography for Gas-solid flow. The modelling and the simulation of 16 electrodes ECT system were done using COMSOL Multiphysics. The material of the pipe was changed between acrylic plastic and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The determination on which pipe material can produce the best image reconstruction quality were done based on the voltage value in the centre of the pipe. Results shows that acrylic plastic pipe has a better voltage value at the centre of the pipe in both homogenous and non-homogenous system.
