Summary:Malik Bennabi is a scholar of civilizaton from the Muslim world that shades the intellectual world in the 20th century. His reputation in the field of civilization is recognized by other scholars during and after his lifetime, either from the Eastern or Western world based on his relevant ideas about the theory of civilization. His thought of civilization emphasizes the elements of human and humanity which indirectly focuses on social and socialization aspect. Based on qualitative method, full library research which appplied the textual analysis for the analysis of Bennabi’s thought is used. Hence, this article describes the role of social institution from the perspectives of human civilization. The discussion emphasizes the theory of social and the importance of this institution in the development of civilization. The emphasis focuses on the role of social institution as a catalyst of intellectualization. The reason is, human being as the element of civilization have an important role either to develop or destroy their own civilization. It is closely related to intellectual value that has developed within oneself, and realistically influenced by education or individual/ social in their surroundings.
