Summary:al-Qatl bi Dafi' al-Syafaqah or murder in the form of compassionate is a term emerged in the 17th AD. It is a practice to end a human life specifically in a critical condition to reduce pain and agony suffered by the patient and it is especially practiced by medical practitioners. This article aims to find out is this practice carried out according to Islamic law as well as the punishment imposed on practitioners if it is found illegal or impermissible. Besides that this article will clarify the best and accurate definition and methodology applied on this practice and also examines the Islamic perspective on these issues based on the fatwas issued by the established and authorized fatwa institution or personnel among the contemporary muslim jurist. This article uses textual analysis method through contemporary fatwas and classic Islamic jurisprudence books. The result of this study shows that al- Qatl bi Dafi' al-Syafaqah is absolutely forbidden as it similar to an intentional murder yet the punishment is vary to qisas's as there are dispute and doubt on judging such practice. However (brain dead, is classified as a special case by most muslim jurists which is legal to be practiced based on certain regulations.
