Summary: | The study conducted is based on a Quasi- Experimental Method in ways to develop the
Teaching of Arabic language as another second language practiced in Malaysia, apart
from the English language. This experimental method is adopted from the theory of
‘repetition and imitation’ practiced by infamous scholar, Ibn khaldun. The predicament in this study derives from the application of the Direct Method in teaching the Arabic language to the second language learners at beginner level. This study aims to identify the characteristics and application techniques of the Direct Method in the Teaching of Arabic language. Also, this study seeks to analyze the level of speaking skills in the Arabic language among the research samples; pre-test, actual-test or post-test which inadvertently, seeking to identify the perception of experimental research sample group toward the Direct Method application of Arabic language learning. Furthermore, this study is answering to questions related to the characteristics and techniques in the Direct
Method application, level of speaking skills in Arabic language among the research
samples and application characteristics of this method which is based on the perceptions
of experimental research sample group. In this study, the Direct Method is applied in the teaching of Arabic language among the experimental research sample group to increase their level of speaking skills acquisition. The research sample consist of 16 male and female students from the experimental group and 19 male and female students of the control group at the first level at the Centre for Foundation Studies of the International Islamic University Malaysia in the year 2011/2012. The researcher conducted pre-test, actual test, and post-test; to identify the skill level of the speech sample, and questionnaire
are distributed to the students of the experimental group in particular; to shed light on their attitudes about the advantages of using the Direct Method in teaching Arabic. The researcher then, assesses the differences between the mean scores of students of the two groups using t-test for two independent samples, assessed as the arithmetic mean of the responses to questionnaire distributed to the experimental group. The outcome of the
Mean results shows support from the experimental research sample group towards the application of the Direct Method in the teaching of Arabic language. Upon completing the study, the researcher has called attention to a resolution and suggestion to increase the effectiveness of the Direct Method usage in the teaching of Arabic language as these resolution and suggestion will increase the level of speaking skills acquisition in Arabic language of the students to a higher or better prospect. |
