Summary:Honey, healing, diabetic, ulcer, wound.Honey has been described in the Quran and Hadith Rasulullah (s.a.w) for its healing properties. Scientists have reported that honey contained several chemicals having antibacterials, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, wound healing properties, anticancer, antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities. Although honey is generally known as food with high sugar level and has very sweet taste, research has shown that it does not increase the fasting blood sugar of diabetic animal model and is very much accepted by diabetic patients. Recently, honey has gained its popularity for the treatment of wound such as in diabetic and burn wounds in hospital set up. Innovation in delivery and application of honey for management of diabetic and burn wound is of interest of many parties. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of gamma irradiated Tualang honey, Tualang honey cream and spray on burn would in diabetic animal model. Preliminary results showed that all types of Tualang honey preparations enhanced the healing of partial thickness burn wound in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Tualang honey spray is the most effective and very much handy compared to honey cream and gamma irradiated honey. The availability of "Tualang honey spray" would encourage the use of honey in the management of burn, diabetic and other type of wounds in the near future.
