Summary: | The ruling of shariah possesses unique characteristics which include
perfectness, universality and flexibility to be implemented under all
circumstances. All human beings need Islam as their way of life, in
particular to ensure their relationships either between human being or
with other creatures are orderly conducted. Looking thoroughly at the
current scenario of modern era, there have been many contemporary
issues which have never existed before. These issues require appropriate
solutions especially in determining their legal status and ruling in
Islam. In essence, human life is dynamic and ever-changing from time
to time. As such, most of the existing rules and regulations concerning
shariah, especially issues which derived from common practices
('urufl and public interest (maslahah) entail some amendments. In
fact, this has also been affected by the rapid development in scientific
research and information technology. Such development has seriously
affected the aforementioned issues; one of them being the issue of
paying zakat online - a newly-introduced service by the authorities. To
verify the shariah perspective on this issue, it is a necessity, then, for a thorough study and references to reputable scholars (ulama ') in the
area. In sum, the finding of this research shows that it is permissible
for Muslims to pay zakat electronically based on the public interest
(nzaslahah) in order to meet the needs of the people. |
