Summary:The ruling of shariah possesses unique characteristics which include perfectness, universality and flexibility to be implemented under all circumstances. All human beings need Islam as their way of life, in particular to ensure their relationships either between human being or with other creatures are orderly conducted. Looking thoroughly at the current scenario of modern era, there have been many contemporary issues which have never existed before. These issues require appropriate solutions especially in determining their legal status and ruling in Islam. In essence, human life is dynamic and ever-changing from time to time. As such, most of the existing rules and regulations concerning shariah, especially issues which derived from common practices ('urufl and public interest (maslahah) entail some amendments. In fact, this has also been affected by the rapid development in scientific research and information technology. Such development has seriously affected the aforementioned issues; one of them being the issue of paying zakat online - a newly-introduced service by the authorities. To verify the shariah perspective on this issue, it is a necessity, then, for a thorough study and references to reputable scholars (ulama ') in the area. In sum, the finding of this research shows that it is permissible for Muslims to pay zakat electronically based on the public interest (nzaslahah) in order to meet the needs of the people.
