Summary: | The presentation briefly traces the major events that led to the evolution of the
programs for prevention and control of the drug abuse, by the government and
related agencies. Besides a few anecdotal references, intend to recall the numerous
decisions and recommendations arrived at some of the conferences, symposia and
workshops held at the national and regional levels these have had some bearing on
the policy issues. While in service of the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, as a senior
consultant psychiatrist and later as a member of the Malaysia, we had the
opportunity to represent these bodies and actively participate in most of the
deliberations. Also the most important event which contributed to the determined
and coordinated efforts to implement by the entire department to prevent such as
"National Anti-Narcotics Action Plan" for "Prevention Of Drug Abuse" and
responsible to the National Security Council in 1986. It is can be safety the
treatment and rehabilitation programs in Kelantan is well recognized all over for
its success. However, all that needs to be done is not to abandon the laudable
philosophy which initiated the action but also reinforce the strength and remedy the
weakness, in particular in the areas of education to promote positive awareness and
improve to reduce relapses. In conclusion, all of the concerned efforts many more
battles need to be won before the war is over. |
