This paper aims to elaborate the role of marital happiness as an important factor that contributes to family stability through the institution of marriage in the Islamic society. For this reason, Islam puts a great emphasis on developing the body, intellectual and emotional aspects of the couples. Marriage is a tight bond between the couples, and the Quran uses terms which emphasize this such as, afda, mithaq, ghaliz to elaborate the importance of marriage and its role in buildingan ethical and intellectual society guided by the principles of Allah in the global era. This paper also highlights the significance of sexual relationship and intimacy in marriage, and its role in advoiding misunderstanding and emotional gap between spouses. Issues including the prohibition of having sexual intercourse during menstruation are also discussed and analyzed based on the opinion of the scholars on the matters.
