These markers are useful as tools for more detailed studies of the genetic backgrounds of the green-lipped musse~ P. viridis, in our country as this species is being cultured as a cheap source of protein for human consumption and has been identified as a potential biomonitoring agent for heavy metal pollution in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
