Summary:The handover between different access technologies is comidered as one of the most challenging tasks in wireless networks. Vertical handover can achieve the concept of next generation networks in terms of the wireless networking environment, where any service can be optimized and apparently delivered at any time. To achieve seamless handover between heterogeneous wireless networks a new mechanism is needed to work in parallel with IEEE 802.21 standard. The current solution is suitable for wired networks. However, it has a limitation in fourth generation wireless networks like: WlMAX and LTE. The development of these networks will provide more services to the user. On the other hand new parameters must be comidered in the handover process. This paper dscusses solutiom for achieving seamless vertical handover between dfferent mobile technologies. This review investigated various enhancement of Meda Independent Handover (MIH). The results of this investigation can be used in new researches in mobility management protocols and cross-layer techmques. The new research will provide effectual collaboration among assorted wireless networks and therefore enables optimized seamless service mobility to the end-users. © 2012 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
