The objectives of this project were to prepare the low carbon steel to heat treatment process; heat treated the carbon steel, investigated the heat treatment effect on the mechanical properties. The procedure begins with selecting the low carbon steel AISI 1010 and cutting it to four samples named sample I, II, III, and IV with the size of 25mmx165mm that are suitable for the 200mmx200mmx325mm furnace Carbolite cwf 11/13 furnace. Samples II, III and IV was heated in the furnace temperature of 900°c for sample II for one hour, III for one hour and a half and IV for two hours. The nest stage was to air cool the three sample in a temperature of 27°c which is the room temperature, after one day, the samples were cooled down to the room temperature. The mechanical properties were tested by the Zwick/ZHU 187.5 hardness tester Rockwell hardness test and the Gotech gt-700-1 computer Universal Testing Machine along with the microstructural analysis. The test values indicate that the hardness of the heat treatment sample increased by 30%, where the tensile strength and yield decrease, the heat treatment process have a better, finer and hardened ferrite-pearlite structure with a lager grain size. 2024-12-04T02:03:19Z 2024-12-04T02:03:19Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/35216 en application/pdf |
