The main objective of this thesis is to study on solar energy and at the same time understand the current electrical system inside TNB's PMU building. Then a new system that consists of solar power system as the main supply is designed and proposed through the use of simulation tool program called HOMER software. The result from this software is used to analyse the cost, performance and efficiency of applying solar power supply on the PMU building. A real time data was collected from the selected PMU, PMU Chuping, in order to understand the load pattern of the building Solar radiation data of the selected area was also collected from the RETScreen software. This was taken from NASA's record. Inside the HOMER software, inputs were filled by considering the current cost of each components in the systems and also the load pattern together with the solar radiation. For sensitivity analysis purpose, the number of each components in the system was varied. The result from the HOMER software suggests that the optimum configuration with the least cost of energy for the system should consist of 20 kW PV modules, 60 kW diesel generator, 20 batteries and 40 KW inverters. However, this configuration does not meet the objective because most of the power is produced from the diesel generator and more emissions are being produced. After considering to include 100 kW PV modules in the system, the optimum configuration is now the one with 100 kW PV modules, 60 kW diesel generator, 60 kW inverter and 20 batteries. Although this confirguration is quite costly, less emissions are produced compared to previous configuration suggested by the software. The net present cost of implementing this system in the PMU system is RM 3,774,050 which is greater than the current cost covered by TNB. However for upcoming years, the cost is expected to decrease because the cost for producing PV panels is decreasing due to new technology being developed to decrease the production cost. 2024-10-23T03:27:28Z 2024-10-23T03:27:28Z 2015 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/34844 en application/pdf
