EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF STRENGTHENED REINFORCED CONCRETE FLAT PLATE USING CFRP UNDER CONCENTRATED STATIC LOADS

Fiber-reinforced polymers replace steel plates for reinforcing applications. This research experimentally investigated the effectiveness of strengthening and repairing reinforced concrete flat slab-to-column connections using CFRP sheets and bars. The experimental variables include the effect of CFRP laminates and CFRP bars on the punching shear behaviour of high- and normal-strength concrete and the use of CFRP laminates in both repairing and strengthening concrete. The study examines fifty scaled, strengthened, and repaired flat slab specimens. Three of these are control specimens, with no variation introduced. Four other specimens are like the control but strengthened by CFRP sheets and bars with normal-strength concrete. Four of the other specimens are like the control but strengthened by CFRP sheets and bars with medium-strength concrete, and the other specimens are like the control but strengthened by CFRP sheets and bars with high-strength concrete. The findings demonstrate that all specimens behaved similarly regarding their breaking patterns. The first crack formed on the tension side of the slabs at the area of greatest bending moment around the column at load levels between 35 and 50 kN. Cracks began to spread from the column face toward the slab edge in the direction of the unbalanced moment, or the direction of the greater depth, at higher load levels of 80 to 130 kN. 2023 Taylor's University.
