There are numerous parameters that have impact on surface roughness, however most are hard to evaluate enough. In milling operation, there are numerous parameters such as cutting speed, depth of cut, cutting force and feed rate that have extraordinary effect on surface finish of intended workpiece. Keeping in mind the end goal to expand the additions from milling operation, a precise model of procedure must be developed. In this examination, an endeavour has been made to ponder the effect of cutting parameter that influence the surface harshness quality. The purpose of this study is to examine the influences of different types of cutting tools coating and cutting parameters on the surface roughness. Thus, in this research, face milling operations will be carried out to study the effect of cutting parameter on Mild Steel using two different cutting tools which is uncoated carbide indexable inserts and PVD (TIAIN+TiN) coated carbide indexable inserts. This both inserts will give a major difference on surface roughness quality since coated carbide inserts will give smooth surface roughness compare to uncoated carbide inserts. To justify this statement, the experiment is further carried out by performing face milling machining. Later the surface roughness is measured using Mahr Perthometer. Once the surface roughness is measured, in order to further clarify the effect of different cutting tools on surface roughness quality, all the sample of workpiece (after machined using PVD coated carbide and uncoated carbide) is picked to examine under SEM (scanning electron microscopy) to get detailed texture view of the workpiece. The sample is prepared by further machining the workpiece into smaller size, 20mm x 40mm x 40mm which is suitable to be placed under SEM (scanning electron microscopy). This project also demonstrate a correlation with other published works. This study is an approach to analyse the effect of cutting parameters. The research shows that with constant depth of cut, constant feed rate and variable spindle speed, the different type of cutting tools coating leave major impact on the quality of surface roughness of machined parts. 2024-10-10T04:37:53Z 2024-10-10T04:37:53Z 2016 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33823 en application/pdf
