Since the design of this device is based upon modifications of commonly existing powered ladder conveyors (ladder hoists) with single non extendable frames, the scope of this project is limited to the design of a single frame ladder conveyor. The objectives of this project were the design and analysis of such a ladder conveyor system using tools like CAD (computer aided design) software with FEM (finite element method) facilitation as well as investigation of the practicality and usability of this device by construction workers, maintenance workers, painters and to a limited extent by firefighters. The modifications of existing powered ladder hoists include replacement of the motorized mechanism (used for lifting) with an equivalent human powered mechanism as well as associated design modifications of other components that facilitate this mechanism. The equivalent human powered mechanism operates using multiple mechanically advantageous mechanisms, of which one was uniquely designed to aid other mechanisms. The methodology used in this project is for problem based design projects, i.e., concepts are drawn based on possible approaches to the problem, while simultaneously considering the barriers and design targets or parameters set in order to meet the design objectives. Concepts were generated using the morphological method and subsequently selected using pugh matrix. The final design is able to meet most of the project objectives but with certain limitations, including that of the usability of the device by firefighters as well as usability at a fixed height. 2024-10-10T03:47:43Z 2024-10-10T03:47:43Z 2014 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33813 en application/pdf |
