Recent studies have shown that biodiesel can be considered for gas turbine applications. It was found that the properties of biodiesel converted from waste cooking oil or better known as First Generation Biodiesel (FGB) was not suitable to be used for gas turbine applications. There was a need for enhancement in the FGB fuel, therefore a microwave heating distillation system was developed by UNITEN. The Microwave Assisted Post- Treatment Scheme (MAPTRES) distillates the FGB fuel into a better quality fuel called Second Generation Biodiesel (SGB), which had better properties than the former. However, the MAPTRES system have not been commissioned yet as it requires performance evaluation prior to SGB's production. Therefore, three objectives were lined out whereby the first objective was to develop an operational procedure to conduct the distillation process in MAPTRES and evaluate it's performance. The second objective was to identify all the optimum operational parameters of the system through experimental works and engineering analysis. Finally, the SGB produced based on the developed procedures and identified optimum parameters will be sent for property evaluation test to analyze it's quality. A set of methodology was prepared to execute the project in accordance to the objectives. The primary operational procedures were developed based on the trial run that was conducted on the system at controlled conditions. The procedures were then modified to fit the requirements of objective 2, whereby the parameter settings were manipulated. With the procedure ready, four sets of experiments with different parameter settings were conducted. Each set was conducted at a fixed microwave temperature range settings and different vacuum pressures. The following sets were then done by manipulating the microwave temperature range setting. Samples of the product were collected in beakers and the results were tabulated and analyzed.
