Catalyst is separated into two type, which is heterogeneous and homogeneous catalyst. In the conventional way, production of biodiesel is always catalysed by homogeneous or also known as liquid catalyst which has several disadvantages such as difficulty of catalyst separation, reactor corrosion, and contamination of sulphur in biodiesel, soap formation and etc. Hence, the objective of this project is to overcome the problems and to find a new potential of carbide lime waste to synthesize solid base catalyst. The characterization of derived solid base catalyst from carbide lime waste was studied and the catalyst were used in transesterification of sunflower oil to produce biodiesel. SEM and EDX analysis shown that Calcium Oxide was successfully produced in solid base catalyst. The result of SEM reveals the effect of calcination and reduces the particle size of the raw material. From EDX analysis it is found the carbide has been removed and CaO was produced after calcination. The Gas Chromatography and FTIR analysis shows that ester was successfully formed after transesterification of sunflower oil. Solid base catalyst synthesized from CLW prove that it could be effective in transesterification of Sunflower oil. In 60 minutes of reaction time, 29.19% of biodiesel yield was achieved. The derived catalyst successfully enhanced the conversion of sunflower oil to biodiesel. 2024-10-07T02:33:14Z 2024-10-07T02:33:14Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33697 en application/pdf
