In some European countries they called it as structural hollow section (SHS). It contains a lot of pattern or shape such as circular, square, rectangular and elliptical. Rectangular tube normally we called it as tube steel or structural tubing while circular tube normally been called as steel pipe. It is common used in welded steel frames where members can experience loading in different direction. Circular tube and square tube is very good in resist multiple-axis loading as they have uniform geometry along their cross-section axes. This characteristics allow them been a good choices for columns. This proposed thesis reports the ultimate compressive strength of the hollow structural tube. Those tubes are made of mild steel and we called it as hollow steel tube. This research presents an experimental study to investigate the ultimate compressive strength of hollow steel tube under axial load. Nine specimens of different shapes and diameter are prepared. They are square tube and circular tube. The dimension for the square tube is 100mm x 100mm whereas the diameter for circular tube is 100mm and 150mm. Each type of tube has 3 specimens and the specimens are used to determine the average compressive strength of the steel tubes. The tubes thicknesses are constant which is 4mm and their lengths are 300mm. The tubes are compressed using the Universal Test Machine (UTM). The tubes are compressed under pinned-pinned condition. A picture is taken after the tubes are under compression. The result of compression test is compared with the theoretical calculation. Formulae used are Euler's formulae, Eurocode and others. 2024-10-03T08:08:46Z 2024-10-03T08:08:46Z 2014 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33664 en application/pdf |
