This project too seeks to then utilize the best approach for harnessing solar energy to achieve its purpose and finally to compare the system with that of an ordinary vapour compression system in the market. The design process consists of reviewing options in the market today besides also studying the feasibility for solar energy application to achieve the required cooling. A vapour absorption chiller that is to be the core of the system is chosen based on the cooling load requirements of a medium sized terrace house in Malaysian climate. The necessary circuitry is then designed accordingly which include the hot water, cooling water and cold water circuits with each analyzed respectively. Lastly the design was compared to a similar sized vapour compression system in terms of COP and initial cost and found to have a payback period of 13 years which is excessively long due to large initial costs. The electrical COP of the system however was estimated to be 5.23 if auxiliary heating is not utilized which exceeds that of most vapour compression units in the market. Lastly, recommendations were given to further reduce this payback period and to better harness solar energy for cooling purposes such as using a hybrid cycle with a combination of 2 or more solar cooling technologies. 2024-07-30T08:26:30Z 2024-07-30T08:26:30Z 2014 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33033 en_US application/pdf |
