The boiler considered was of a tangential firing type through which natural gas as well as air was injected into the furnace from all its four corners at seven varying elevations. The ultimate objective of this thesis included the conduction of an investigation procedure on the heat transfer occurrence within two full scale furnaces whereby the primary was equipped with three reheaters and the latter without. Two ANSYS software were used including GAMBIT and FLUENT for the initial geometry modelling and simulation procedure respectively. The realizable k-e turbulence model was implemented to solve the momentum, enthalpy and mixture fractions. The P1 radiation model was employed to model radiative heat transfer within the furnace. The effects brought upon via the presence of reheaters through setting of proper boundary conditions are investigated in this furnace through the demonstration of flow, temperature and heat flux attributes. The flow within the furnaces is intense with high swirls in the windbox domain where mixing and combustion of natural gas and air occurs. The upper portion of the reheater furnace has greater swirls towards furnace walls compared to the center of its width. Turbulence is extremely great with flow of flue gases in an anti-clockwise manner till furnace exit. The velocity magnitude contours are the greatest in the windbox area due to continuous combustion and the least in the hopper area as of minimal concentration of flue gases. The upper portion of the reheater furnace has greater velocity magnitude contours due to lesser available flow area. Tangential velocities for both furnaces are rather similar considering similar widths and axial velocity was greater in the upper portion of the furnace with reheaters due to lesser flow area. The greatest temperatures are witnessed in the windbox area for both furnaces with the furnace with reheaters having lower temperature in the upper region compared to furnace with rehaters. Heat flux for both furnaces is most prominent in the middle region with the furnace with reheaters having lesser heat flux values. 2024-07-30T07:31:52Z 2024-07-30T07:31:52Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/32980 en application/pdf
