PID is now widely used in industries especially in automation control. The main purposes of using PID is to correct the errors created by a plant and prevent overshoot of voltage or current when start condition is applied. The correction of errors and prevent of overshoot are done automatically when the parameters of PID are set properly. In this propose project, a special use of PID to save the energy of the escalator is presented. The aims of the project is use the PID technique minimize the current require by the escalator. For instance, if the normal escalator uses 200A of current to work, then when using PID, the escalator may just need 100A of current to work instead of 200A. Therefore it saves 100A. Since the real time escalator is very big and incur high cost to implement, therefore it will not be constructed in the project. The project will implement a concept and small prototype resemble like escalator using DC motor to demonstrate the energy saving using PID. In the small prototype presentation, 45° angle of escalator is build. One DC motor is attached as a driver and the follower is connected to driver by means of belt. The DC motor is controlled by PID with three parameters setting.K.Kd and Kp. At the end of the project, an apparent of energy saved or current saved should be obtained. A comparison results on current saved before using PID and after using PID will be shown.
