This thesis investigates the impact strength and the morphological properties of kenaf/nanosilica/epoxy composites. The objective of this project is to study the mechanical properties of kenaf fiber reinforced with different materials which are epoxy and silica. Kenaf fiber which is also a natural source of fiber has been chosen because of its low cost and it is also easily obtainable. This project investigates the effect of nano-silica on mechanical properties and morphological properties of kenaf/epoxy composites. Experimental test has been done to determine the impact test and the hardness test. Hardness test is done for treated and untreated sample to investigate the effects of treating the specimen. Hand lay-up method is employed in this project to prepare the specimen. Epoxy acts as the medium for all the samples. Overall, the highest impact strength was found in the kenaf fiber reinforced nano silica and epoxy specimen while the least impact strength was found in untreated kenaf fiber. The treated kenaf fiber reinforced epoxy with 6 % of NaOH has a higher hardness compared to the non-treated due to the surface roughness and the adhesive bonding of the particles. Finally based on the result, it was observed that kenaf reinforced epoxy/silica has the highest strength compared to others. Also the treatment of kenaf fiber by alkaline solution enhances the mechanical properties of the composite. 2024-03-05T00:24:43Z 2024-03-05T00:24:43Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/31499 en_US application/pdf |
