my.uniten.dspace-314232024-03-03T02:09:16Z The usage of titanium dioxide to produce tiles with the property of self-cleaning Mohd Zulkamal Mohd Zuki Surface active agents TA418.9 .C57 M63 2015 Anatase phase of titanium dioxide (a-TiO2) exhibit the property of self-cleaning in which any particle of water that contacted with the a-TiO2 coated surface will be contracted into beads with the help of sunlight that excite the ions between the water particle and the coated surface. Thus, the water particle are easily being rubbed off of the coated surface. This research is conducted to prepare TiO2 coating that can be applied onto any type of tiles and to investigate the performance of self-cleaning ability of TiO2 coating. To determine the performance of the self-cleaning ability of TiO2. different percentage of net weight of TiO; powder used to prepare the TiO2 costing and different type of tiles to be coated are used as the parameters for the experiments. To prepare the samples, TiO; coating is applied onto the tiles' surfaces is by spraying the prepared TiO; slurry. The TiO; slurry is prepared by diluting a specific amount of a- TiO2 powder and distilled water. Once the coated TiO2 slurry is dried, it is then put into the furnace to adhere the coating onto the tiles. To active the photocatalytic property that responsible for the self-cleaning ability in a-TiO2, the samples are let to absorb the sunlight for 3days. Then, indicator are applied onto the samples" surfaces. Analysis are done based the recorded pictures of the experiments on every 10 minutes. After 70 minutes of experiment, glazed (5%) sample achieve its full capacity of self-cleaning ability, while the glazed (10%) sample took 60 minutes to achieve its full capacity of self-cleaning ability and the unglazed (10%) sample took only 50 minutes to achieve its full capacity of self-cleaning ability. The full capacity of self-cleaning ability of glazed tiles is 80% of the degradation of the indicator and for the unglazed tile, the full capacity of self-cleaning ability is 85% of the degradation of the indicator. From the recorded results, it shows that the TiO; coated unglazed type of tile will increase 5% of the effectivity of self-cleaning ability of TiO2 coating compare to the TiO2 coated glazed type of tiles. Other than that, it is also found out that the grain size of the TiO2 particles is directly proportional to the effectiveness of self-cleaning ability of TiO2. This relationship are supported by the SEM images produce on different percentage of net weight of TiO2 powder used to prepare the TiO2 coating. Finally, it is determine that TiO: coating will apply its most effective ability of self-cleaning when using 10% net weight of TiO; powder of coating and coated onto the unglazed tile. 2024-03-01T03:45:08Z 2024-03-01T03:45:08Z 2015 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/31423 en_US application/pdf |
