Description
Summary:This manuscript proposes a novel control technique to regulate the speed of a variable frequency three-phase induction motor drive. The novelty of this article lies in the application of artificial neural network based nonlinear autoregressive-moving average-L2 (NARMA-L2) controller for the speed control of three-phase induction motor drive. NARMA-L2 controller checks the actual speed and the reference speed and generates the required stator frequency to regulate the speed independent of the load conditions. The performance of the developed system has been compared with vector controlled voltagesource inverter fed variable frequency three-phase induction motor drive. Induction motor dynamic machine model in state-space has been considered to study the performance of the system. It has been observed that the developed system is able to achieve smooth speed regulation as opposed to vector control technique without violating IEEE-519 total harmonic distortion (THD) standard. The response of NARMA-L2 controlled system is much faster as compared to complex vector controlled system. EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2012.
