A PIC implementation of upstream transmission for EPON

Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is becoming more popular since the users demand more bandwidth each day. A lot of simulation studies have been done in order to study the upstream EPON transmission, but they are less accurate due to assumed parameters and it does not take into account the phy...

A lot of simulation studies have been done in order to study the upstream EPON transmission, but they are less accurate due to assumed parameters and it does not take into account the physical parameters and the non-linear effects of the optical components. Therefore, this paper presents the study of upstream EPON transmission using hardware. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time peripheral interface controller (PIC) is being used for an EPON testbed. We also compare the delay result that we achieved from the testbed to the result that we obtained via simulation. The trend of the graph is of the same pattern, with some value differences that are expected due to too many assumptions used in simulation. 2012 IEEE.
