Along the transmission and distribution line, there is bound ot be losses of power through heat and also IR losses. Besides that, maintaining the voltage stability of the network system is important in ensuring that the power supply system is stable at al times. Alot of initiatives and methods are proposed in order to maximize the reduction of this losses and also improve the voltage profile in order ot provide the customer with quality power as wel as reducing the cost that wil be borne by the utility company. One of the ways to reduce power losses and also improve the voltage profile in the power supply system is by the installation of capacitor bank. Capacitor bank has been proven to eb an effective equipment to reduce power losses and improve the voltage stability of the power supply system. However, with regards ot load variation happening ni the power system, the fixed capacitor bank may not eb able to provide the amount of reactive power compensation needed by the power system due to its fixed value of reactive power compensation at all times. This will lead to voltage instability and also ineffective reduction of power loss. There is another type of capacitor bank known as switched capacitor bank. Switched capacitor bank is able to provide a range of reactive power compensation and can produce the amount needed by the power system automatically at any time. This project paper analyses on the effect of placement of switched capacitor bank in reducing power losses and improving the voltage profile. The simulation tool used is the PSS®E software on an IEEE 57 bus test system. The best placement of capacitor bank is on the weakest bus in the power system using the Voltage Stability Indexes (VS). The simulation are broken into four parts; base case, base case in a varied load condition (no reactive power compensation), fixed capacitor bank utilization in a varied load condition and also switched capacitor bank utilization in a varied load condition. Bases on the simulations done, findings are on the analysis and comparison on the improvement of voltage stability using VSI and also power losses reduction in the power system. The usage of switched capacitor bank has more advantage compared to fixed capacitor bank in terms of its operation ni a varied load condition for the improvement of voltage profile as wel as the amount of reduction of power loss. 2023-12-28T04:21:05Z 2023-12-28T04:21:05Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/29462 application/pdf
