This paper presents an interferometric application using single-look complex (SLC) radar data to determine locations in urban areas subject to land deformation induced by earthquakes. Padang City, located on the west coast of Sumatera Island, was subjected to six earthquakes in 2018 that had a magnitude bigger than five and subjected to four earthquake events in 2019 with a magnitude of four and above. The earthquake events are within 200�km of the urban area of Padang City. The remote sensing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of pair consecutive data before and after earthquake events in August 2020 were used in the study. Other pairs of SAR data in 2019�2020 were used to determine the velocity of land deformation. The interferometric analysis of DInSAR found that the urban area of Padang is subjected to a velocity of surface variation of 30�cm/year. After the August 2020 earthquake, surface deformation has occurred in the urban area of 10�30�cm. The location and geological formation of alluvium characteristically lose rock formation, predominantly affecting the earthquake�s surface variation of the urban area of Padang City. � 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
