This paper scrutinizes the contribution of renewable energy to the future global energy mix and the encountered challenges in energy development. When implementing renewable energy in our country, it has its own challenges due to the technological barriers among the other countries. However, it also gives benefits to the country itself when CO2 emission can be reduced and become more environmentally friendly, especially to society and ecology. The study was conducted based on Indonesias scenario, incorporating two specific examples of renewables namely, biofuel and geothermal energy. This paper further assesses the existing challenges associated with renewable energy development and the latest proposed solution to secure Indonesias energy supply. School of Engineering, Taylors University.
