The 60-70 asphalt binder was modified with 3 to 15% e-wastes. The e-waste size was determined to be below 75 micron in size. The e-waste is a recyclable waste materials that are causing tremendous environmental problems. The successful use of this material can be of importance and benefit to construction industry. The main components of the motherboards are polymer and fiber glass that blended well with neat asphalt binders to produce high viscosity binders. The research work focused on modifying the 60-70 neat asphalt binder with e-waste proportions of 3,6,9,12 and 15%. A series of traditional binder tests such as penetration, ring and ball, flash point and viscosity tests were carried out prior to carrying out the asphalt mixture design. The overall binder tests showed a remarkable improvement. The research showed that 9% e-waste binder performed the best in terms of stability and resilient modulus. In addition to the above, it was observed that the Dynamic Shear properties of the e-waste modified binders as compared with the unmodified binder significantly improved the fatigue and rutting resistance as determined using the rheological properties such as complex modulus and phase angle values. The overall outcome of the preliminary study showed that the e-waste has great potential to be used in future road constructions.
