Summary:The human body is a miracoulous gift lent to humans by the glorious Creator. Hypothetically, we went from crawling on all fours to being bipedal, and having our tails reduced to a useless extension called the cocyx. Alongside our physical form, our dexterity and intelligence also underwent evolution, which eventually landed us on top of the food chain. We may not have the agility of a cheetah, or the magnitudinal strength of an ant nor the wings of a bird, but with our complete limbs paired with the higher-level intelligence of our brains and conscience, we were able to achieve many great things. Construct shelters, practice medicine, farm, hunt, and even go to war, a great deal of our progression in the evolutionary pathway were thanks to our arms and legs. Fast forward to today, advancements in medicine have allowed us to overcome a number of shortcomings that may stumble upon an unsuspecting soul. Those born without these marvelled limbs or those that lost access to their functionality along the way now have several options to regain a fraction of that functionality. In this thesis, we will be exploring alternative methods into developing low-cost and accessible upper-extremity prostheses that will utilize other gifts human beings have access to, verbal language. Additionally, we will try to further integrate the prostheses into accurately carrying out what we want by integrating a piezoelectric sensor, so that it can register stub movements and convert them into electricity that’ll further contribute to mechanical prostesis movement.
