Despite of having many advantages regarding the mechanical characteristics, however the usage of concrete in the construction industry have led to a serious environmental issue hence, led to the discovery of polymer concrete. Polymer concrete has shown a number of promising applications in building and construction. However, there are multiple factors that can directly or indirectly affect the mechanical characteristics of the polymer concrete. In this study, the effects of the amount of polypropylene fiber used to enhance the mechanical properties of polymer concrete were investigated. In the present research, different proportion of polypropylene fiber in the ratios of 0.12%, 0.16% and 0.2% were added to the mixture of polymer concrete. For each grade of polymer concrete, the cylinder and prism specimens were cast, cured and tested at 7 days to assess the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of polymer concrete. As a result of the study conducted, it shows that with an increase in the amount of polypropylene fiber added to the polymer concrete, an increase was observed in the compressive and indirect tensile strength of polymer concrete whereas the flexural strength had exhibited the opposite trend where at first the strength increases with the addition of 0.16% but further addition of fiber had decreased the flexural strength. Thus, it can be concluded that the results suggest that fiber reinforcement is a good choice to improve the mechanical properties of polymer concrete and polypropylene fiber has shown a promising potential as an additive in polymer concrete 2023-05-03T17:41:07Z 2023-05-03T17:41:07Z 2020-09 Resource Types::text::Thesis https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/21691 application/pdf
