Summary: | The world today is a modern world that races for technological and infrastructural advances in particular. Thermal barrier coating is one of the applications that encourage the development in the industry. Gas turbine blade is one of the application that applied thermal barrier coating concept. The main purposed of this coating to withstand high temperature in the system and increase the system performance. However the conventional thermal barrier coating applied in industry was YSZ. This conventional coating only can hold the system until 1200˚C only. Therefore, Y-TZP doped with TiO2 are seen to be an alternative way to replace YSZ as thermal barrier coating. Thus, a study entitled “ Synthesis and Characterization on Mechanical Behavior of Y-TZP with TiO2 addition as Top Coat for Thermal Barrier Coating Application” was done by taking Y-TZP doped with TiO2 as alternative material as top coat ceramic layer. Y-TZP was chosen because it’s the strongest ceramic material and highest flexural strength of group zirconia base. In order to implement Y-TZP doped with TiO2, the samples are fabricated into five different compositions. For the fabrication, samples mixed by ball milling process to mix the composition. Next, all samples will undergo pressing method to change into pellet form. Sintering process at 1400˚C is the next process before sintered samples undergo characterization process. SEM, EDX and XRD were involved in characterization process to evaluate morphological, elemental composition and phase of material. At the end of study, mechanical properties in term of hardness was evaluated by Brinell Hardness Test. The value obtained was compared to validate the hardness of samples. |
