Traffic light mainly consists of three different lights that will illuminate in sequence. Red, yellow and green colours are typically used for a traffic light. However, due to population increases every year in Malaysia, the demand for the private vehicle also increases. With the number of vehicles keeps increasing year by year on the road, the occurrence of traffic congestion is very hard to resist. This leads to a problem for the emergency vehicle to get through the traffic light junction quickly and safely. Any Delay encounter by the emergency vehicle can lead to other serious problem especially when involving the life of a person. A traffic light that is designed specifically to detect the presence of the emergency vehicle such as ambulance and prioritize the lane can be helpful. Allowing the ambulance to have green light can reduce the waiting time at the traffic light junction. Detection of the ambulance near the traffic light junction doesn’t determine the vehicle is on the emergency condition, thus a siren detector is required to make sure the ambulance is in emergency status. In this project, the smart traffic light control system based on the ambulance image and siren is proposed. The system deals with the detection of the ambulance and its siren as approaching the traffic light junction. If the emergency ambulance is detected the traffic control system will activate the green light of the traffic light to the lane, thus facilitate the movement of the ambulance. The object detection model created using the Malaysian vehicle dataset that can detect four type of vehicle classes including ambulance police car fire trucks and car. The model created using deep learning process that undergoes the training process using laptop NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPU. In this project the siren detection model obtained from the pre-trained model by Tensorflow in GitHub website. The siren model used to detect the presence of the siren near the traffic light junction from other different noises that are available on the road. The process involves setting up the project includes creating a traffic light control system, creating an object detection model and lastly to use sound detection model to detect the siren sound. The result of the project is discussed and analysed if the system works as planned.
