Summary: | This thesis introduces application of iron (III) oxide waste on tiles as a coating material. This iron oxide waste is a by-product obtained during recycling of spent acid inside reactor. Steel needed to undergo some metal treatment in order to recrystallize their geometry shapes. During these processes, there will be some metal oxide formed over the steel surface. Hence, it will be dipped in acid to remove the layers. As now, the acid will contain some carbon and iron contaminants. This acid will be sent to recycling process. There is where, the iron (III) oxide waste obtained. This iron (III) oxide waste neutralized and mixed with industrial grade brown colour pigment. Total of eleven samples prepared with different ratios. Thus, the colour will be changed and chromameter was used to determine the values of, L*, A* and B*. For phase analysis, the sample was tested using XRD analysis. EDX analysis was conducted for determine what are the elements inside the samples we prepared. EDX analysis also used to support conclusion that there was no chlorine element inside the samples after neutralization process. SEM analysis was conducted to determine the sample particle size. Wet on wet method was utilized for the application of the coating on the tiles. Once the coating dries, it characterized using chromameter. It is found that iron (III) oxide waste can be use as coating material for tiles, as naturally it contains good colouring ability. |
