Summary: | Superconductors have been in use for decades in application such as in fields like MRI, power transmission cables, transformers, motors, generators as well as medical device usage. Superconductors as known can behave as its properties at certain critical temperature, Tc. In this paper, it is analysed on highest critical temperature that Bi-2223 conductor can still behave as superconductive properties. Besides critical temperature Tc, critical density, Jc is also been analysed to determine its superconductive properties. Bi-2223 superconductor is a very high temperature application material which consists of complex and textured materials.
Several methods and processes is applied to prepare the samples of Bi-2223 in this research. One of it involves Co-precipitation method which is method to mixed Bi(NO3)3, Pb(NO3)2, Sr(NO3)2 and Cu(NO3). 3H2O with oxalid acid + isopropanol. Heat treatment method of sintering and calcination are applied in determining the critical temperature, Tc and critical density, Jc. Neutron Irradiation method is then applied to the samples. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) are applied in determining its characteristic properties. Four point probe measurement is then used for the same purpose.
As the results of the experimental procedures, the critical temperature, Tc and critical density, Jc is determined. The characteristic changes before and after neutron irradiation is observed. The results reveals a drastic changes in characteristic of samples before and after neutron irradiation. As a results, superconductors become radioactive when exposed to radiation. |
