As “Occupational Safety and Health” is an extremely important issues while working in a dangerous environment such as inclined slopes and uneven terrains, which is a typical condition for rainforest in Malaysia, having an extra help from mobile robot to carry out heavy loads prove to be a good option to reduce fatal injuries associates with sudden falling. So, it is crucial to develop a suitable and high performance of mobile carrier robot to comply with the need of the robot to carry the loads throughout these terrains effectively and efficiently. The paper proposes an alternative approach to replace the currently expensive way to reach transmission tower located in location which is non-accessible with any other vehicles except helicopter. The suggested approach, which is using mobile carrier robot to carry loads throughout the walking journey to the transmission tower, will makes the overall cost of inspection and maintenance greatly reduced while maintaining the safety and comfort of workers. The developed mobile robot was design based on the available standard mechanical components and cost-effective tools such as microprocessors, wireless remote control, DC motors and aluminum frame, which reduces the overall production cost while maintaining a high performance and efficiency of the robot. Suitable dimensions of frame for the mobile robot were designed to carry the standard replacement components of the transmission tower parts such as Insulators, Stockbridge Dampers and Arching Horn. Meanwhile, “Rocker-Bogie” mechanism used in the design will ensure a high capability of the mobile robot to maneuver throughout the obstacles. The mobile robot was designed based on remote control system, which increase the overall control of the mobility of the robot throughout the unapproachable terrains such as tight spaces and overly inclined slopes. As a result, the overall time taken to reach the transmission tower will be reduced significantly while maintaining a more ergonomic, safer and comfortable journey for the workers. 2023-05-03T15:12:52Z 2023-05-03T15:12:52Z 2019-10 https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/20679 application/pdf |
