During daytime, the photovoltaic (PV) panel will harvest the energy from sun and stored in a battery pack. The energy will be used by the system during night. Arduino-UNO is used as the microcontroller for the system. Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) is used to detect dark surrounding and activated the street light. There are four lights use in the prototype. Light 1 and 3 will always be on until the LDR detect the surrounding is bright enough to switch off the light. Passive infrared sensor (PIR) will detect the appearance of an object either human or car and activate light 2 and light 4. Light 2 and 4 will be turned off if there is no signal within 10 seconds. Another unique function of this system is the GSM modem install in the system will send a short message service (SMS) to the street light operator if there are any fault on any light in the system. Data is taken from the prototype and amount of energy saving is calculate at the end of this project.
