Summary: | Audio recording is crucial in distributing the art to the world. Historically, musicians and
engineers use to record on a wax cylinder. Since then, the technology improving as time
progress forward. From wax cylinder, to tape machine, to PCI audio card, then later the
technology evolved allowing the musicians and engineers could produce music using audio
interface that enable them to work with even from bedroom. Study of this area of
knowledge seems new to a developing country like Malaysia which emphasize on
development of other area of technology, such as communications and transportation.
Designing the multi-track audio interface involving basic components comprising Preamp,
Digital-to-Analog and Analog-to-Digital Converter, USB, and output for monitoring
during playback and also during recording the track. It is almost impossible to develop an
audio interface from scratch because of the development of the driver for the respective
audio interface to be working with PC. However, products such as audio codec produced
by Behringer and Texas Instrument enable the development of this project by designing the
preamp circuitry. Preamp circuitry for this project is done by choosing the suitable design,
using Class ‘A’ single NPN transistor to amplify the low level signal produced by musical
instrument and microphones. The system is compatible with Audacity as Digital Audio
Workstation in the PC to record the signal of the guitar; which is used in this experiment.
Even the prototype is cheaper and simpler, it does the job as close as possible to the existing
product in the market. |
