The geometries are prepared by using PTC Creo Parametric, and later exported to ANSYS Fluent for CFD simulation. The perimeter of the cross-sectional area for all cases has been as a constant in order for a fair comparison of the heat transfer could be done afterward. The optimal mesh size of the model has been found through Grid Independent Test and is applied for the other simulations. The model has been validated with past CFD study conducted by Fsadni et al. (2017). From the results of present simulation, it can be concluded that both hybrid rectangular-circular and rectangular cross sections in helical coil heat exchanger has better heat transfer capabilities in comparing with the conventional design of the cross sections, which is circular, from 8% up to 73% of heat transfer improvement. Rectangular cross-sections are the optimal tube shapes for 10,000, 30,000 and 40,000 Reynolds number with 0.87% up to 22% of improvement in heat transfer, while the hybrid rectangular circular are the optimal tube shapes for 20,000, 50,000 and 60,000 Reynolds number with 1.1% up to 4.57% of improvement in heat transfer. 2023-05-03T15:01:50Z 2023-05-03T15:01:50Z 2020-09 https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/20467 application/pdf
