Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to examine the drop call rate and signal strength across Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) in Celcom mobile network. The research methodology of this study is to use an application called MyMobileCoverage which enables us to view current network coverage with the signal strength mapping and drop call information. This tool can be used to study which areas have weak signal strength and analyze the drop call rate. The research is also limited to areas in the Universiti Tenaga National, Putrajaya Campus. The practical implications of this study may help discover areas where drop call occurs and enable us to measure the quality of the mobile network tested. The originality and value of this study is that there are not many test performed and recorded to evaluate the network quality in Malaysia besides the occasional drive test by Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC). This study may help steer the mobile operators to improve the quality of the service provided. This research is able to point out location which statistical data that call drop occurs, which may be used to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) of the network. From the study we have found that the call drop rate for this area is close to 5% which is high. The signal strength of Celcom network in this area can be improved as there areas when the received signal code power (RSCP) is below average.
