Description
Summary:The rapid development of energy efficiency of LED street lighting which can provide increased light output, better light quality, reliability and cost. At present, currently used light sources used in standard street lighting application are based on aging technology where the light sources used is High Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPSV). In this study, the study evaluates the technical assessment of employing LED street lights. The performance of several LED street light technologies specifically the energy saving, electrical performance and photometric quality are evaluated and assessed. The study involves installation of the LED street lights at site, measurement of its electrical performance and photometric quality at site and lab testing. The study indicated that LED street lightings can provide between 30% to 60% energy saving to the utility. Most of the LED street lights surveyed also are provided with better Ingress Protection (IP) rating and Color Rendering Index (CRI) compared to HPSV street light.
